Social
Committee
The Social Committee at the Brookdale runs functions primarily to bring
all sections of the Club together and since 2004 has included activities
previously organised by the Members Special Efforts Committee (MSEC).
The season commences in September when the new
Vice-Presidents of the Club are introduced to all members at Vice Presidents
Evening, where a meal is served and entertainment is provided.
The events organised under the auspices of the Social Committee include
the following:
New Years Eve Celebration, Christmas Fair, Whist
Drives, Table Top Sales, 250 Club, VPs Evening, Family Christmas Evening,
Presidents Evening, Newcomers Event.
New Years Eve is
always a very popular evening and the Hall is decorated with a different theme
each year and includes a dinner and music for dancing to see in the New
Year.
The Christmas Fair held
in November provides an opportunity to purchase Christmas presents, cards,
wrapping paper and many other items helpful for the Christmas season. It also
raises funds for the Club. Although many of our Sections organise events with a
Christmas theme, the Family Christmas Evening is an evening for families to get
together in the run up to Christmas for traditional Christmas activities
including carol singing.
Whist Drives open to
members and non members are arranged in the Club on the third Thursday of each
month.
Table Top Sales are held
on Sunday mornings. There are five or six a year and they provide an excellent
opportunity to sell unwanted items and buy new ones! To book a table call our
booking answerphone on 0161 439 0606.
The 250 Club raises
funds for the Club while paying out 3 valuable prizes each month. The annual
subscription of £12 is used half for Club funds and half for prizes, the
more members the bigger the prizes and the larger the contribution to club
funds. Contact Roy Tudge at the Club to join or for more information.
Presidents Evening,
usually held in May each year provides entertainment in honour of the President
by members and for members. This is another opportunity for all Club members to
meet outside of their normal section activities.
The Newcomers Event is
held once per year and offers New Members the opportunity to meet the President
and representatives of the different Sections to learn more about the
particular activities in which they have an interest.
Events in the near future are:
